Bon Die Makers company was the first die-makers to open shop in Cape Town, was founded in 1973 by Livio Bon (hence the name Bon Die Makers).
Livio Bon was later joined in 1994 by associate Fabrizio Trentini.
While Livio learnt the die making trade in England, Fabrizio introduced new technical design and automation processes to the business.
We service the packaging industry, the printing industry (litho
printers, digital printers, typographies) as well as the construction
industry.
One of our biggest clients is also the automotive industry, as the leading world branding stickers manufacturer for the automotive is based in Cape Town and we are their die providers, having to comply with very stringent quality standards.
But what do die makers do exactly, and what are dies?
Dies, or “fustelle” in Italian, are templates used for cutting or stamping or forming objects.
An example for the use of dies is for cardboard packaging: a flat piece of cardboard is pressed on the die, which introduces cuts and folding lines, so that it can be shaped into a specific box. This could be any type of packaging from a wine box to a chocolate box, from the light cardboard wrapping of a pair of socks to a cosmetics box.
Other examples are stickers, tags, puzzles or even construction material.
