The Fogolâr Furlan is an association for Friulani and their descendants residing in South Africa (particularly in the Western Cape). The aim of the society is to maintain and pass on the traditions of Friuli through social, cultural and recreational events and activities.
The society currently has 90 members and we pride ourselves as being the largest remaining regional Italian organisation in the Cape. We hold various events/gatherings every year, with each event highlighting the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional food or culture. In October 2021, we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the association with an event that was attended by multiple generations of Fogolâr Furlan members.
The society also feeds back to the larger Italian community through charitable contributions such as donations to the Red Cross Earth Quake Fund, the Italian Club of Cape Town, and the Associazione Assistenza.
Our committee is made up of Giuliana Loi Cockcroft (Chairperson), Marina Martin (Vice-Chairperson), Linda Borean (Treasurer), Shayni Pappin-Davidson (Secretary), Vic Colussi, Giuseppina Driussi Loi, Graziella Battiston McIntyre, Angela Swain, Roberto Bottega and Rosemary Rocuzzi Richards.
